The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle

Text Box: HISTORY
Today there are many forms of unarmed self-defense that have spread around the world. Various Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Okinawa arts that use the limbs as weapons are known as the inaccurate term Karate, Which is a Japanese term meaning “empty-hand”. Greece seems to be the spring board of martial arts to the rest of the world. Legend has it that Alexander “The Great” brought Pancration, - the Greek martial art - to Bodidharma who refined the art and taught it to monks in India. These monks used the art for conditioning and self-defense which both were essential. Then the monks traveled and studied in monasteries from India to China, Korea, Okinawa, Japan, and America. That is how martial arts traveled from country to country. Various styles developed in those differing regions. Each martial art seems to have a flaw or weakness of some sort. If you train in a martial art that is mostly standing (using punching and kicking you would not be able to match wits with an opponent that is versed in ground fighting. That’s why Bushido Martial Arts Academy has a mixture of seven different styles of martial arts from four different countries.
